Engagement Story

Michelle & Shawn

Shawn and Michelle met in high school. Long story short was that they were not friends, but reconnected on an unconventional dating app ten years later called “Words With Friends.” After Michelle kept beating Shawn at the games, she realized he wasn’t going to say anything. She sent him a message after another victory to ask him if he was tired of losing yet. He liked her competitive sass and immediately asked her out for happy hour. They arrived in Seattle around 4PM for Happy Hour and stayed through late night Happy Hour and Last Call. Needless to say, they really hit it off and have been inseparable since that day.

Fast forward three years...it was time for Shawn to be thinking of how to pop the question. Michelle had been traveling on a business trip. While Michelle was gone, Shawn took advantage of the opportunity to have a conversation with her parents. Shortly after dinner, Shawn realized that the Rutt's are not good at keeping secrets, because within an hour all of her siblings knew of his intentions with their sister. This motivated Shawn to come up with a proposal plan quickly so that nobody could ruin the surprise for Michelle. Shawn decided he would catch Michelle completely off guard by picking her up in a limo and proposing in the curbside pickup at 11PM on a Wednesday night. He was able to deliver the most shocking, confusing and happiest moment of her life.

For their engagement session we met near Kerry Park at a little hidden area called Parsons Park down the street...we took in some of the surrounding area and...the beautiful weather. Of course I like the random areas and the streets around there...combined with their fun personalities it was a casual afternoon just getting comfortable. We later ended up at Daniel's where their love story began. We walked along the marina and with Michelle's blue dress and the evening sunlight bouncing off the boats it was gorgeous. These two are easy to be around. They laugh with each other (and at my lame jokes) and love life...and it was worth it to end there to end with happy hour apps!
They have decided to have a January wedding and I couldn't be more excited to photograph it. Having photographed Shawn's other 2 siblings weddings I feel honored that we get to be there with them for this one too! They are a super fun couple with fun friends and an amazing family so it's gonna be a fantastic party!!! Not to mention they always have the best dance parties! Congratulations, and January will be here before you know it!
